Microsoft Security Update
Microsoft has released its
monthly security updates on April 13. Visit the Microsoft Windows Update
site to ensure that the most recently discovered security holes are
closed and your systems are kept up to date.
If you have a concern that there is
more software running on your system than you would like, you can run
the MSCONFIG program to see what is loading as your system starts
(Windows 9X, ME and XP only). To start the MSCONFIG program simply click
on the START button and select the RUN menu item. In the command line
dialog box that displays type MSCONFIG and press the ENTER key. Once
MSCONFIG has started click on the STARTUP tab to see a list of software
that starts up when you turn your computer on. To prevent any program in
the list from starting simply uncheck the box at the left. Be careful
what you disable as many of these programs are critical for the proper
functioning of your system. If you are unsure about an item in this list
please either call ELM or search the internet to see if that item is
necessary or not.
As always, please do not hesitate to contact me if you have
any questions about this or any other issue.
If you have an associate who you think would also
appreciate receiving these bulletins please let me know (with their
approval) and I will add them to the bulletin mailing list. Please feel
free to forward these bulletins to anyone you wish. If you no longer wish
to receive these bulletins, or if you received this bulletin by mistake
please send me an email with "Please remove me" in the subject line and I
will take your name off of the bulletin mailing list.
