This interim bulletin is to call your attention to the recently discovered Sasser worm which began infecting computers at the beginning of May 2004.

The Sasser worm, like most other current worms and viruses, takes advantage of security flaws within various Microsoft products (operating systems, office suites and internet software) to infect your computer and proliferate to other computers to which yours is connected (either via the internet or over an office network). Most of these worms can be prevented from infecting your system simply by ensuring that Microsoft's security patches have been installed and your anti-virus software has up to date virus definitions. For additional security you should install a firewall which serves to prevent un-authorized internet access from the computers it is protecting.
