Subject: Virus Warning - Microsoft Update Hoax

Virus analysts have recently released a warning of a possible virus attack disguised as an email notification from Microsoft Update. Once infected the virus would allow its creator(s) to gain control of the infected system. Although the virus is distributed in an email claiming to be from Microsoft, computer users should remain aware that Microsoft (like most software companies) does not send update notifications by email and that one should always be suspicious of such emails. (Most Windows based computers will periodically inform the user of security updates by means of a small pop-up window near the System Tray - the area of the computer screen where the time is displayed. This is perfectly normal and is generated by the Critical Update component of the Windows operating system.)
