A Perplexing Display Problem
Good Morning and Happy New Year!
Since you probably have a great deal to do this week, this final ELM Bulletin of 2008 will be brief, discussing only a single display issue and its resolution.
One of my children recently received an audio CD, with special features for use with a computer. Unfortunately, when we tried to use the special features of the CD on our computer the program window was not positioned properly on the computer monitor. The program window overflowed the right and bottom edges of the monitor and could not be moved or resized in any way. Increasing the resolution of the display, rather than resolving the problem, moved the program window further down and right on the monitor; displaying even less of the special features of the CD.
What did we do? After several minutes of trial-and-error, we discovered that reducing the resolution of the monitor (in this case, to 800 X 600) allowed the program window to display properly.
While this can be a rare problem (this is only the third or fourth time I have encountered it in several years), when it does occur it is very confusing. I hope that the solution my daughter and I discovered will be useful if you ever come across the same thing.
